While in the West, this concept has been prevalent for over 30-35 years, in India executive coaching is about 15 years old which has gained substantial momentum in the last 7-8 years. The Coaching Foundation India (CFI) has launched successfully a two-tier program for CEO Coach and Internal Leadership Coach accreditation. By Pradipta K. Mohapatra
Nov 1st 2011
How matured is the concept of ‘executive coaching’ in India?I think ‘executive coaching’ is far from being a mature concept, and is still in its early days. We have embarked upon a journey, which is beginning to see rapid growth. If you look back 5 years, only the Indian arms of large global organizations were open to the concept of ‘coaching’ because of favorable experiences they had had in the US and Europe. Today, we are seeing many large Indian organiza... Read more »

How matured is the concept of ‘executive coaching’ in India? The concept of coaching has been around for as long as the human race itself. By Radhika Gopalakrishnan
Nov 1st 2011
When is executive coaching most effective? While we were apprehensive that executive coaching will not work in the case of owner-promoter companies which are driven by technocrats, we realized it worked very well when the agenda was owned by the top. When the decision to adopt executive coaching is led from the top and there is a clear and strong conviction that the organization will stand to gain if they bring about the required 2-3 changes in the context of the new business requirement, it se... How matured is the concept of ‘executive coaching’ in India?I would say it is still in a very nascent stage. Though there has been substantial growth in the last 2 years and while there are no ready figures, my guess is that we have seen a growth of 30-40 percent. Culturally, given the family and social structure in India, a person naturally tends to fall back on family and friends for any advice or feedback in life. This non-judgmental and professional help and support has never b... Read more »

How matured is the concept of ‘Executive Coaching’ in India? Before we dwell on the concept of coaching, one must understand that ‘coaching’ is a helping relationship which is set in a business context. It is a situation where someone with experience is trying to help someone in need. Therefore, there is a need to understand how we in India seek help. Traditionally, in India a common practice is to seek help from an informal source i.e. family, an ex-boss, friend etc. We ... Read more »

How matured is the concept of ‘executive coaching’ in India?Historically, India has always been very close to the concept of coaching as the metaphor of “guru-shishya parampara” is something that we in India have had as a very unique practice.
