A CLO's job, unlike an HR job, is not transportable

A CLO cannot move easily from one industry to another and that is a core element of the DNA of a Chief Learning Officer, says Srikanth Karra, Director-HR, India & South Asia, Bharti Airtel

The DNA of a successful CLO has three main elements: One is tremendous depth of the business domain on the context of the company or industry that he is working in, tremendous exposure to business elements right from the P/L to a service area to a product development and has a good grounding and understanding of the DNA of the company first and able to understand in that context. Secondly, a CLO's job is not transportable. He can't shift from one industry to another very easily and that is a core element of the DNA. The most important thing is that the person needs to have the curiosity to learn, understand and create a learning organization
