NetApp Inc., formerly Network Appliance Inc., is an American company that creates innovative storage and data management solutions. A member of the NASDAQ-100, NetApp is built on a culture of innovation as a sustainable differentiator, which drives better business outcomes for the customers and partners.

In NetApp’s egalitarian culture, employees are respected at all levels and are given the tools, resources, and autonomy to perform their job with success. The company has a collaborative and open communication environment where everyone is expected to contribute and their input is valued, which sets the foundation for innovation.

Executives and managers companywide encourage candor and transparency, and they are known to be approachable by all employees. Since its inception in 1992, NetApp strives to create an environment in which employees are proud of their work, enjoy working with their colleagues, and trust the leadership. This helps make all employees feel part of the team, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie.

According to Rick Scurfield, President, NetApp APAC, “We have a company culture of treating employees as our greatest asset. We believe that it provides the competitive advantage and differentiating factor, which drives better business outcomes for our customers, partners and makes us a great place to work. Our collaborative and open communication environment fosters a free flow of ideas and exchanges. Everyone is expected to contribute and their inputs are valued, which sets the foundation for our innovation. It is how we maintain a positive work environment, which is conducive enough to push our thinking envelopes to come up with better strategies and solutions for our customers.”

Attracting the right talent to the company is only half the journey. CY Yau, Senior HR Director, NetApp APAC, says, “At NetApp, not only do we place strong emphasis on hiring the right people that fit our company values, we advocate employee engagement and retaining the best talents. We have set in place policies and initiatives to ensure a healthy and encouraging environment, and promote a work-life balance for all employees.”

NetApp promotes a culture of open communication where the senior management communicates openly and frequently with the employees. For example, the Open Door Policy fosters a free flow of communication between employees and managers, including upper-level management. And any employee can schedule a face-to-face meeting with any executive.

NetApp believes in giving back to the society and encourages its employees to take part in the Volunteer Time-Off Program, where they can take up to five days off per calendar year, with full pay and benefits, to volunteer at a local school or a non-profit organization of their choice, or at NetApp-sponsored community relations activity in their area. In addition, employees with technical expertise may take additional time off as needed to provide technical assistance for recipients of NetApp’s in-kind donations of products, equipment and/or technological skills.

At NetApp, there are many formal and informal recognition programs throughout our organizations around the globe. One of the most prized awards is the Living Our Values Award, which is a peer nominated award honoring employees who go above and beyond for the customers, partners and each other.
