A central tenant of Hyatt’s teamwork philosophy is that no single position at their hotels – whether it is manager, front desk agent, or room attendant – is more important than the other. This is emphasized from the very first day of anyone joining. Their orientation facilitators explain that regardless of one’s title or chief duty, something as simple as picking up a piece of trash or cleaning a small mess cannot be overlooked by even the most senior associates.        

While they are extremely proud of their numerous training programs, they recognize that none of their efforts would be possible without the commitment of the great people who work at their hotels.

A talent pool of 100 Departmental Trainers is maintained at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, encouraging the development of associates that aspire to make a career with the Training Team at Hyatt. Departmental Trainers are selected through a talent hunt. Post being shortlisted in the Talent Hunt, these potential Departmental Trainers undergo a Skills workshop where the associates are trained on subjects like training etiquette, how to conduct a training session, preparing training task lists, presentation skills, communication skills, etc.

The associates are then asked to work on a post course project on completion of which the associate graduates into a Departmental Trainer. The Departmental Trainers also attend a monthly meeting hosted by the hotel Training team where updates and focus items are addressed.

The hotel rewards this team of Departmental Trainers with eligibility to be recognized as the “Trainer of the Month”. The winner, who must be a Departmental Trainer and not a member of the Human Resources training team, is eligible for a prize of Rs 6000. The Park Hyatt Goa recently launched a similar recognition program for Departmental Trainers with an “Academy Awards” theme.
