The Mahindra Group has grown globally and exponentially since 2003, and as the structured talent management architecture unfolded, it emerged that the organization was deficient in well-rounded leaders. Under these circumstances, executive coaching emerged as a crucial intervention to build well-rounded senior leaders who are ready to take on leadership roles.

The executive coaching program is built on the vision to support leaders to help them discover and fulfill their potential. The coaching process involves working with leaders in areas that impact them and where the leader is keen to make big improvements, including, leadership effectiveness, team-effectiveness, leadership transition, career progression, interpersonal relationships, behavioral attributes, personal effectiveness, work-life balance, stress levels and so forth.

The coaching program takes the leader through a journey directed towards raising their level of self-awareness and self-responsibility. The process relies on the premise that every leader has the ability to find answers to most of their dilemmas and challenges within themselves. However, often in their busy lives, they are unable to create the time and space to discover those answers.

For greater impact, it is crucial that the coach is seen as a role model within the organization; the coach is a strong ambassador of the Mahindra Way and the ‘Rise’ Leadership competencies; the coach must be high on people development competency and committed to coaching; and the coachee must be inclined to improve and develop.

An important prerequisite in coaching is the the presence of chemistry between the coach and the coachee to build the required trust. The coachee must volunteer and see the benefits of having a coach. Further, a good coach does not give a set prescription but helps the coachee write his/her own prescription and helps the coachee evolve as a better person. Executive coaching has resulted in a profound transformational experience in our senior leaders which, in turn, has contributed to organizational effectiveness.
