Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT) is one of the rare business management institutes in the country with a complete focus on Information Technology Business Management. The institute attracts a lot of students from across the country and outside as well who are handpicked through a stringent selection process after clearing the SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test) entrance exam.

Adding to the talent influx, 70 per cent of the students already have industry experience and come with a focused approach. The four specific areas to specialise in IT Business management are Systems Management, Information Security Management, Software Solutions Management and IT Infrastructure Management. Emphasizing the importance of IT business management, Director Dr. Raman says, “Be it banks or big brand FMCG companies or software giants, none of them can function without an IT backbone. Even a small operational issue of the network getting disconnected to a strategic issue of having a wrong IT strategy in place, it can cause havoc to these corporates. Therefore, IT business management professionals help in creating the backbone for their businesses to run smoothly!”

The three fundamentals that drive its mentoring process are ‘Knowing Being and Doing’ wherein, the students are exposed to real time situations and simulations through proof of concept labs, whitepapers and case study courses. In their initial 15-20 days of the program at SCIT, the students are made to just interact with successfully established alumni to share their experiences from the industry and understand the scope of opportunities and challenges they will have to prepare for during their stay at SCIT, while they pursue their IT Business management program.

Some unique courses like IT consulting, software products, IT strategy are completely facilitated by professionals from the corporate world. The institute also offers special certifications like PMP, CAPM, which makes the students more industry ready. The students from SCIT have also displayed outstanding calibre globally with students winning global competitions like the SAP Data Geek Challenge, SAP TechEd and bagging pre-placement offers with stunning packages.

SCIT, in its vision to be a world class IT B-School, sends a few of its students to Ritsumeikan University Japan, for a 3-month summer project with an impressive stipend. Also around 30-35 students from Ritsumeikan University visit SCIT to get trained on ‘Software Solutions Management’ course. The institute, through the University, has a MoU with Carleton University, Canada, for a collaborative research. The faculty members are involved in joint research with IBMers in a collaborative fashion. The institute has also has also won the prestigious Shared University grant from IBM for carrying out cutting edge research.

The core focus influencing the vision of the institute is, instilling human values in the students in addition to creating global IT professionals out of them. To strengthen the same, Student Social Responsibility group (SSR) get involved in teaching unprivileged kids in the institute vicinity, during their free time.
