Why mobile recruitment is set to revolutionize hiring

Lets look at the scenario of mobile recruitment across the world and the way forward.
Why mobile recruitment is set to revolutionize hiring

The world of recruitment has almost become 100 per cent digital, making mobile recruitment the next big thing in the field of recruitment. The medium has ranged from recruiting by texts to social media recruiting and now developing apps dedicated to help recruiters and job seekers.

The success of mobile recruiting is mainly attributed to the integration of smartphones into every aspect of our lives. The concept would have been alien a decade ago where mobile devices were seen more as a luxury than convenience. With the evolution of smartphones and the rise of the millennials, mobile recruiting has moved from being a one-way process (Job search apps, SMS text marketing etc.) to an easy process that also aid the recruiters with effective candidate evaluation and engagement through mobile.

The Indian Mobile industry is one of the fastest growing in the world with over 350 million unique mobile phone users that have access to the internet. Candidates are using their phone to search, review and apply for jobs on the go. Recruiters on the other hand, are understanding job seekers behavior and adopting mobile recruitment strategies as part of their hiring process.

Current trends that are being adopted by recruiters include:

  • Mobile Optimization – Recruiters realize the importance of a mobile-friendly site and are ensuring their career sites are responsive across devices.

  • Simple application processes –The traditional resume is being replaced with digital profiles that enable candidates to share their information hassle-free. Job applications are being tweaked to enable smooth integration of LinkedIn profiles, personal websites, blogs and other forms of digital media.

  • Shorter interviews – Hiring processes are more streamlined these days by cutting down extensive interviews. More and more recruiters are using webcam/one-way video interviews to save costs and time spent conducting interviews.

  • Branding – A dearth of talented hires has shifted the scrutiny power from the hands of the recruiters to that of the candidates. These days’ job seekers dissect and analyze a company even before considering applying. It is imperative for companies to develop their brand and present a user-friendly front that reflects the ethos of the company. Companies should also look up how their own employees rate them on different platforms like LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Naukri, Shine etc.

  • Mobile employee referral program – Referral programs have been around for a while, but its adaptation to a mobile-optimized system is still a work in progress for companies. Mobile apps are being developed to help recruiters build an effective referral program by automating and simplifying the entire process.

The future of mobile recruiting lies in three important things – streamlining processes, data analytics and mobile outreach.

Mobile recruitment’s major focus has been on making the lives of job seekers simple. This trend is set to change with mobile apps being developed to help streamline hiring processes and simplify it for both job seekers and employers. It would lead to adoption of new technologies like conversational UI, cloud-based hiring tools etc. to take recruitment to the next level.

A large amount of data is being generated everyday by job seekers. This could be in the form of time of job seeking, technology being used or even the type of job being researched. Recruiters can use this data effectively to send personalized job profiles instead of the mass emails. It would also help in targeting passive candidates that aren’t necessarily looking for a job, but wouldn’t mind if new opportunities are presented.

By 2017 the number of smartphone users will reach 4.77 billion, according to Statistas recent survey. The fastest growth is seen in emerging countries. Tapping into the developing market and accessing Tier 2 or Tier 3 cities would be the next stage of recruitment. A higher mobile outreach would help in building a greater talent pool to access.

With the speed of innovation of new technologies in the mobile industry it is difficult to assess the next big thing in recruitment, but one can be assured that mobile devices would continue to adapt and evolve according to the needs of the recruiter and job seeker.
