Soft skills are more important than your technical skills or hard skills for your success in personal as well as professional life as they boost an individual’s interactions, work performance, and career prospects.

 Why employer value soft skills?

Employers value soft skills because these are the bedrock of career growth. They help you to work well with others and make a positive contribution to organizations you work for. Soft skills not only make the environment more comfortable for the employees but also contribute to the productivity of individuals.

These days there are many professional trainers and HR departments working to provide training to the employees for soft skills. This is because companies understand that soft skills of their employees are good for their business. Every professional is judged on its core technical competency as well as his/her soft skills during various rounds. Even if you clear your technical or core competency round of interview, still you could be rejected in the HR round if you could not prove your soft skills.  Human Resource professionals judge an individual during the HR interview. They know the importance of soft skills for organization. Hence the HR’s decision is crucial in one’s hiring. Hence soft skills are very important to your career success.

Below we will discuss key soft skills mainly considered as “Desired Soft Skills” for a good professional.

Effective Communication

Effective communication is more than just speaking and is the heart of all soft skills. People with good communication skills have the ability to convey information to others in a better way.

At the workplace, it is very important to communicate well. Effective communication at workplace provides you with a clear understanding of what is demanded from you, with knowledge of what to do and what to expect.

Active-Listening

Listening skill is an integral part of soft skills. By listening actively you can understand another person’s viewpoint and become a more productive employee.

Remember, good communication can be established by good listening. You can listen better by simply adding more patience, time, open-mindedness, and curiosity, into your daily interactions at your workplace.

Adaptability

Organizations can change at any time, leaving employees struggling to adjust to new ways of doing things and new skills to learn. No one likes to change, especially at work, but today, being adaptable and having a good attitude while greeting the unexpected is a reasonable skill.

This ability is highly valuable to employers. When you can easily adapt to the conditions and procedures of a workplace, your status rises to that of a reliable person.

Team-Player

In every organization you can find teamwork. The ability to work within a team is another important soft skill.

Employers want employees who can work well with other team members, sometimes as a leader and sometimes as a follower, continuously monitoring the progress of the team as a whole. Team-building exercises can be very beneficial in helping employees develop this skill.

Problem-Solving

Being able to make quick decisions, thinking on their ends and solving simple problems are important employee traits. At least one employee should have the ability to take charge of a situation and guide the others through if they have any problem. The employees who exhibit these decision-making skills are often excellent candidates for promotion to management level.

Leadership

This skill comes with individual efforts and experiences. You should start taking stand, put more efforts and create examples for others. You should show your initiatives and enthusiasm for taking the responsibilities for achieving the goals for the organization.

Instead of waiting for instruction, take initiative and share your ideas rather to think that “Some one else would do it, why should I?” Be brave, take chance. Remember Leader is the one who is followed by many. So think that way.
