How to create an agile learning culture for the workforce

With continuous evolution and disruptions such as AI, it has become imperative for organizations to enable their human resources to keep pace with the rate of changes happening in the business world. It is essential for organizations to develop agility in the learning culture to leverage the fast-paced growth and get a competitive advantage. Organizations need to recruit employees who are not only skilled in their current domain but are also adaptable to changes and are willing to learn in the moment of need.

An agile employee must be able to recognize the new industry or business trends and should be willing to learn and implement the new practices in their scope of work as and when needed. To empower employees to adapt the ever-changing business ecosystem, organizations must provide them with relevant resources that give them an opportunity to apply this knowledge.

Here are some of the ways in which organizations can build an agile learning culture:

  • Map programs to individual learning needs

Learning programs must be personalized to suit the specific requirements of every individual. It’s high time that instead of designing a single learning program for a whole team or department the manager must assess the knowledge needs of each employee and chart out their strengths and weaknesses to leverage their existing strengths and help them overcome their shortcomings. By personalizing the learning programs employees will learn just-enough and just what is needed according to their domain of expertise, thereby, reducing the time lost in gaining unnecessary information.

  • Creating a cloud-based research resource pool

Establishing an online knowledge resource pool will help employees to access the information as and when needed. Giving access to authentic, informative reports will help employees to build their perspective on the business and will encourage them to come up with new solutions and ideas. Employees don’t have to dig for external resources and learning techniques when they have access to various learning tools within the organization.

  • Appreciate, reward and incentivize learning

Creating a culture of learning and propagating the same by providing incentives and inculcating a sense of importance regarding continuous learning is essential to develop an agile learning environment. Designing incentives or appreciating verbally for learning something new and relevant will boost the employee’s morale and make them feel empowered. Incentives are a proven method to encourage people to do something that they may not do otherwise by choice. Even in the corporate world of highly rationale beings incentives are as effective as they are for any other non-corporate person.

  • Peer learning and learning in teams

Best practices are always shared and improved in a team and a collaborative environment. By instigating conversations to develop future capabilities, organizations must encourage peer learning. Group activities, presenting an internal project or opinions and sharing research decks must be a regular practice not just within the team but in the entire organization. Not only will this give momentum to agile learning methods but it will also communicate the organization’s current initiatives and projects to everyone making them feel a part of the organization in the real sense. Apart from providing agility to learning practice but will also create great collaborative teams as employees will be able to trust and reach out to each other in the moment of need or to discuss any opportunities.

Organizations need to provide learning resources in various formats making it easier for employees to learn on-the-go as they can access information in varied formats from video-based content to podcasts and summarized reports depending on their way of learning. Developing agility in learning is beneficial to organization and employees in more ways than realized. Organizations must propagate self-driven personal and professional development in order to inculcate agile learning culture. Agile learning practices are helpful in incorporating Intrapreneurship as employees are expected to build their own caliber and find solutions to the problems on their own.

Companies must concentrate on a people-driven business model to build agile learning culture and leverage its advantages. Not only does it make human resources in the organization more efficient it also gives them a sense of belongingness as they feel valued in a thriving ecosystem.
