Flipkart, already in the throes of managerial change at the top, announced more changes on Tuesday. What will this additional reshuffling entail?
Flipping through change: More top-level churn at Flipkart

Walmart-owned online retail player, Flipkart, on Tuesday announced additional restructuring in its top-level management. In an email rolled out within the company, Chief Executive, Kalyan Krishnamurthy stated that Chief Financial Officer, Sriram Venkataraman, who will now be taking on the additional responsibility of Chief Operating Officer, would also be looking at the marketplace and retail division besides managing the logistics arm, Ekart.

The exits of Fintech Head, Ravi Garikipati and Chief Marketing Officer, Shoumyan Biswas, have also added to the general tone of reshuffling that seems to have gripped Flipkart. The email further clarified that Anil Goteti, Head of Marketplace will now take responsibility of the marketing division while Vice President for Product, Ranjith Boyanapalli, would be heading the fintech segment while continuing to lead the company’s charter on payments and customer experience.

In his email, Krishnamurthy stated, “With our new structure and our incredible talent, I am certain we are a step closer to being a future-ready organization that allows us to deliver maximum, long-term impact for our customers and stakeholders.”

In keeping with the trend of evolving roles, Vice President (smartphones and large appliances) Ajay Veer Yadav will take over leadership of the refurbished platform 2GUD from Goteti while continuing his existing role and Utkarsh B, Principal Architect, as part of the CEO’s office, would also assume the role of Technology Advisor.

The changes don’t end there, as there was a Myntra-Flipkart swap as well. Ramesh Bafna, Head of Lifestyle and Home business finance, will shift to Myntra as Head of Finance. Amar Nagaram, Head of Consumer Shopping Experience at Flipkart, is also moving to Myntra and will join as Head of Engineering and Product while Myntra’s Chief Technology Officer, Jeyandran Venugopal, is joining Flipkart’s engineering division as a senior VP.

If reading about and keeping tabs on these changes seems to be trying, one can only imagine the ordeal it might be for the company internally. Every single change culminates into the addition of yet another moving piece in the puzzle and it would be interesting to watch what further changes might be in store and how the teams are realigned. These changes also stress on the need to communicate the context of top-level shifts to the rest of the organization because it impact the organization as a whole.
