LinkedIn' India head Akshay Kothari has been recently promoted to the new position of head, international product, LinkedIn. 

The expansion of his role this year comes two years after Kothari was promoted as the country manager for LinkedIn’s India market in January 2016. He had joined LinkedIn in 2013.

In his expanded role of leading product for international markets outside the US, Kothari will be responsible to enable every market to think locally and create more value for every member on the platform. 

Back at home, Kothari led the launch of LinkedIn Lite last year which is the first 'made in India, by India, for India' LinkedIn product. Last year, LinkedIn also announced plans to enter the blue collar jobs market in India.

The platform which counts more than 546 million professionals on its platform has over 47 million in India alone, with the US accounting for the maximum number of LinkedIn users.

Prior to joining LinkedIn, Kothari was the founder and chief executive officer of Pulse, a personalized news application, which was later acquired by LinkedIn for $90 million.
