Indian IT firm Wipro has moved to online test for hiring freshers instead of going through the process of visiting engineering college campuses across the country.

As per a media report, Wipro has launched an initiative called the Elite National Level Talent Hunt. The 140 minutes assessment process tests the candidate’s aptitude, written communication skills, and online programming capabilities. Candidates can choose one of the several programming languages like Java, C++, Python for the coding test.

Wipro President & CEO Bhanumurthy BM stated, “While we continue to visit a good number of campuses, we wanted to take a wider look at the talent pool available across to be able to address and attract those people we chose this national-wide test as an alternative hiring channel. The idea is to increase our whole catchment area and also build a digital skills repository.”

He also added that the process shortens the recruiting time dramatically.

Wipro, however, is not the only IT firm to take to online tests for hiring. TCS had started the same in September. Called the National Qualifier Test, the online test was followed by a video interview or a face to face interview depending on the candidate’s location. TCS stated that this way it was able to complete the online recruitment process in three to four weeks, in comparison to the three to four months it took under the traditional method of recruiting.

As the war for talent intensifies, it seems natural that companies are moving over from the old ways of recruitment to faster ways of recruitment, aided with technology, in order to find the right talent, be it anywhere.
