WeWork won't reimburse bill, if employees eat meat

WeWork currently has nearly 6,000 employees and serves more than 253,000 members globally. New research indicates that avoiding meat is one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact.

WeWork announced today a commitment to be a meat-free organization. Moving forward, the company will not serve or pay for meat at WeWork events, including poultry, pork, and red meat.

WeWork currently has nearly 6,000 employees and serves more than 253,000 members globally. New research indicates that avoiding meat is one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact. 

We Work’s Chief Cultural Officer wrote an email to the global team where he mentioned the how the organization can do their bit for the environment.  In his email, he mentioned that  In the past few weeks, many teams around the world have already taken action to help the company become more environmentally conscious. From plastic-free events in Montreal to recycling initiatives in Hong Kong, we’re excited and humbled by how quickly our teams can make an impact. 

He said, “We have made a commitment to be a meat-free organization. Moving forward, we will not serve or pay for meat at WeWork events and want to clarify that this includes poultry and pork, as well as red meat.”

He added, “New research indicates that avoiding meat is one of the biggest things an individual can do to reduce their personal environmental impact — even more than switching to a hybrid car. As a company, WeWork can save an estimated 16.7 billion gallons (63.1 billion liters) of water, 445.1 million pounds (201.9 million kg) of CO2 emissions, and over 15 million animals by 2023 by eliminating meat at our events.”

WeWork Summer Camp is one of the signature annual events of the company and it will not serve eat at the camp.  The company has also decided to help the refugee’s organization to reuse sleeping bags, air mattresses, tents and more.

Though Fish doesn't include in their meat-free initiative, and the company also clarified that employees and members are welcome to bring meat into WeWork for their own meals, and members are welcome to serve meat at events they host. This initiative only applies to food purchased with WeWork company money.
