SCI remains headless, may lose its navaratna tag

State-owned Shipping Corp. of India Ltd (SCI) may have to run without a permanent chairman for at least six more months even as India’s biggest ocean carrier is running the risk of losing its coveted navaratna status, Mint reported.

State-owned Shipping Corp. of India Ltd (SCI) may have to run without a permanent chairman for at least six more months even as India’s biggest ocean carrier is running the risk of losing its coveted navaratna status, Mint reported.

Since 31 December, after S. Hajara stepped down as chairman and managing director, SCI has been running without a full-time chief. Its director (finance) B.K. Mandal is currently officiating as chairman and managing director.

Sunil Thapar, director (bulk carriers and tankers), was selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) on 31 August last year for the top job, but he is yet to get a final clearance from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
