Delivery staff strike interrupts Swiggy’s service in some parts of Chennai due to pay-related demands.
Swiggy’s delivery personnel go on strike

Food-delivery platform Swiggy yet again faced disturbance as the delivery personnel go on strike in Chennai over pay-related demands.

The service was disrupted in about 20-50 spots in Chennai as the personnel urged the company to increase the per-order pay and “restore the incentive amounts that had been reduced recently. The delivery personnel have also announced that the strike would continue indefinitely if the management did not heed to their requests.

The other demands included the regularization of per mile compensation, more avenues to communicate with the organization on delivery related problems, and ensuring that personnel does not face “police harassment late in the night” when they carry out deliveries.

A Swiggy executive shared in media, “A new scheme was brought out which said that instead of the Rs.36 that we were getting, the amount will be reduced to Rs.35 for the first four kilometers. We didn't think much of it because it was a reduction of just one rupee.”  He further stated that they (delivery partners) realized that the money that they usually got for waiting time and the total amount for delivery, were being reduced without any explanation.

“In addition to this, incentives were being withheld over paltry excuses of login time. Earlier, someone who worked 70 hours got Rs.450 as an incentive. Now, even if he works for 90 hours, the incentive is not given sometimes,” shares the executive.

Earlier in October, at least 500 delivery partners went on strike against Swiggy to demand a hike of Rs.20 per delivery in their pay.
