Tata Communications CEO resigns, the search is on

Vinod Kumar, Tata Communications Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer, has resigned from his position citing “personal reasons” and the plan to search for his replacement is in motion.

Having worked with Tata Communications for about 15 years, Kumar joined the telecom division in 2004. Kumar’s resignation will be effective starting from the end of the day on July 5, 2019. As the telecom giant is upon the brink of incurring larger losses in the last quarter ending in March, Kumar is exiting the company which is now planning to refocus on helping enterprise customers.

Digital infrastructure services are now going to be the focus area for the company even though they are choosing to go light on the asset front in their portfolio. Up until last month, Tata Comm’s data center had a 26 percent stake in the Singapore unit. In June, they sold their stake to ST Telemedia Global Data Centres in order to offload some of its assets.

The telecom unit added that the Board of Directors has chalked out the next steps to replace Kumar and “expects to finalize a suitable candidate at the earliest.”

As the digital communications landscape continues to change, companies such as Tata Communications are looking for ways to repurpose their goals to align towards the demands of the industry and introduce innovative solutions for enterprise businesses.
