Uber plans to expand its technology team in India

Cab-hailing service Uber India plans to expand its services beyond 31 cities as per Pradeep Parameswaran, President, India, and South Asia. This means it will also be ramping up its technology team in the country

Pradeep stated, “This also means that we will be expanding our number of staffers in the technology team, product and operations to drive growth, which further points to the fact that the business in India may not turn profitable any time soon. In the future we will work towards creating a sustainable business model.”

The company also plans to set up one of its largest technology team in India, followed by the US market.

Pradeep added that the idea is to hire as quickly as it can, the tech professionals in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. However, he did not state how many people Uber wants to hire. The operations team at Uber in India has grown from 15 to about 75 employees over a period of time.

He also did not mention the exact number of additional cities the company will cover as part of its expansion plans. Meanwhile, Uber’s rival Ola is present in 110 cities across the country. Ola has currently been on an international expansion spree. Besides India, it has expanded its operations to Australia, UK and New Zealand.

Meanwhile Uber has been on a hiring spree; lately, the company has re-shuffled the India leadership team, hired Nelson J as the Chief Financial Officer and roped in Rebecca Messina as their first Chief Marketing Officer. This week, the cab-hailing company announced Nikki Krishnamurthy as its new Chief People Officer.
