Toyota workers call off strike

The Toyota Kirloskar Workers’ Union has withdrawn its hunger strike and will, instead, start a relay hunger strike from Tuesday. The decision follows suggestions given by senior trade union leaders and NGOs. During the last two days, a few workers had to be hospitalised. The workers have been demanding withdrawal of the suspension of 32 employees as well as increase in wages by about Rs 1,000-4,000 a month. The Labour Commissioner, who had called for a meeting between the workers and the management, had to put it off because the company officials did not turn up.
