KVIC provided jobs to over 14.75 lakh people in four years

"In the last four years, from 2014-15 to 2017-18, the KVIC has successfully established 1,93,818 small and medium projects across the nation - from sleepy hamlets to bigger cities - providing job opportunities to 14,75,888 persons at their doorsteps," saidVinai Kumar Saxena,

Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

In April 1957, The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), took over the work of former All India Khadi and Village Industries Board. And through the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a flagship scheme of the Government of India for which KVIC is the nodal agency, the Centre has been encouraging the village industry.

The commission that was established to promote the village industry has been recently growing rapidly, as per the reports.  Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC shared that in the financial year 2016-17, the Khadi and village industries products witnessed record sales worth Rs 52,000 crore and it was expected to cross the Rs 65,000 crore figure, in 2017-18.

Apparently, it is the digitization of KVIC that has fueled this development and the job growth in the sector.

"Ever since KVIC's IT team developed an in-house portal in 2016, we saw a quantum jump in the number of PMEGP applicants. As a result, we disbursed the margin money subsidy of Rs 4,735.94 crore during this span of four years, which is some landmark in the implementation of the government scheme," Vinai Kumar Saxena said.

In a press meet held on Sunday, 27th May 2018, Vishal Saxena also highlighted that it is Jharkhand that has emerged as a ‘Role Model State’ for others in implementing the government schemes besides taking up innovative ventures like bee-keeping, tassar silk production etc on a much wider scale. He mentioned that the training centers owned and run by State Khadi and Village Industries Board in different parts of the State is doing a commendable job in reviving the Khadi culture apart generating employment for local residents.
