Staffing firm, TeamLease Services had recently launched their biannual ‘Employment Outlook Report’ for the April-September, 2019-20 HY. According to the report, the logistics sector will witness a net addition of 1.49 lakh new jobs in the current six months. The report forecasts a 3% increase in net employment outlook in half of this year. 

As per the findings of the report, at 31,480 new jobs, Mumbai tops the list of cities with maximum opportunities for talent in the logistics sector. Delhi, which stands second in this list, will witness the addition of 28,510 new jobs in the same period. As per the study, the exponential growth is triggered by the growing online seller base of the sector. 

Commenting on the findings, Sudeep Sen, Head of Industrial, Manufacturing & Engineering Vertical, Teamlease Services, said “Currently the logistics sector employs around 82.4 lakh people as of HY-2, 2018-19. The penetration of e-commerce companies to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities has created an increased demand for talent in this sector. The sector is forecast to witness 14.19% job growth. Railways, waterways, air freight and warehousing are the areas wherein talent absorption will be the highest. 

The detailed study also analyses the attrition trends across the sector. According to the findings of the report, the logistics sector witnessed a not-so-significant increase in attrition rates for the October-March, 2018-19 HY which was at 17.27%. 

The report analyses functional and environmental aspects across 19 sectors and 14 geographies to provide an in-depth insight into the hiring sentiments. It has surveyed 775 enterprises in India and 85 businesses across the globe to evaluate employment outlook trends.
