Abbott India appoints Ambati Venu as MD

Ambati Venu started his career with GSK, and his 24-year stint comes to an end as he takes over as the MD of Abbott India.

Abbott India has appointed Ambati Venu as the company’s Managing Director. He takes up the position from Rehan Khan who quit the company in February this year to pursue career opportunities abroad. Khan’s final resignation was effective from April.

Venu has been working with GSK Consumer Healthcare for the past 24 years. The last position he held at the company was that of Asia Vice President. He started his career with GSK.

The IIM-A alumnus, Venu also headed the commercial operations for GSK's Middle East & North Africa businesses across 17 countries, among the company's fastest growing and most complex business environments before Asia. Venu returns to India after an overseas spell of almost 8 years.

"Venu's background in FMCG and OTC medicine, ability to embrace diverse cultures, engender trust and deliver productivity-led growth will be key assets at Abbott," the company said in a statement.

Venu will be based out of Mumbai and report to Bhasker Iyer, Vice President, Established Pharmaceuticals Division, Abbott.
