Hero Cycles ropes in former GE executive as Group Chief Digital Officer

Former Chief Information Officer for GE Transportation-Indian Railways JV, Shaveta Wadhera has been appointed by Hero Cycles as Group Chief Digital Officer. Based in Gurugram, she would be reporting to Pankaj Munjal, Managing Director of Hero Cycles.

Wadhera comes with an extensive experience in leading large global technology programs, business operations, infrastructure management and sourcing function across large organizations like General Electric and Max Newyork Life. In her most recent role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for GE Transportation - Indian Railways JV, she owned IT strategy, digital transformation and overall technology stack. She has worked as a technologist and function leader, and led organizational transformations, simplified business processes and improved operational efficiencies across various industry verticals.

At Hero Cycles, she would be focussing on digital initiatives for setting up of greenfield state-of-the-art industrial park in the Hi-Tech cycle valley, as an immediate priority.

On a global scale, the Road Bicycles market is currently showing significant development. And Hero Cycles also seems to be making the most of this opportunity. Established in 1956 in Ludhiana, a fire that started with manufacturing cycle components, today, claims to be the largest manufacturer of bicycles in India and is producing 5.2 million cycles per annum. The growth of Hero Cycle and the entire Road Bicycle market can be attributed to the new product prototype versions, global market dynamics, economic statistics, topological variations, and product sales and demands that is taking place in the present day.

In recent times, the government has also shown a lot of interest in leveraging the demand for more innovative products and further bolstering the Road Bicycles market. For instance, Punjab Government, announced that it would establish a high tech cycle valley in 383 acres at Dhanansu village in Ludhiana district. This is a part of its well-conceived strategy to bolster not only the industrial sector in the State and but also providing job avenues to the youth.

The Hero Cycle project in the Hi-Tech Cycle valley which is the immediate focus area for Wadhera as she joins, is also a part of this initiative by the Punjab Government. Early this year, the Punjab government had allocated 100 acres to Hero Cycles to set up a modern industrial park to boost manufacturing of cycles, electric bikes and e-vehicles, and promote the light engineering industry in this upcoming Hi-Tech Cycle Valley. Now, as the work for setting up this industrial park kickstarts, Hero Cycles has already roped in a veteran to spearhead its digital initiatives. How Wadhera drives this project and enables Hero Cycles to stay ahead of the curve amid competition from other market leaders like Giant, Trek, and Bridgestone Cycle, is to look forward to.
