President and CHRO at Tata Motors steps down

Gajendra Chandel, President and CHRO at Tata Motors Ltd, has decided to move on from Tata Motors after spending 14 long years in the organization. According to an internal mail, Chandel, who has been with Tata Motors as member corporate executive committee and chief human resources officer since April, 2014, is now planning to pursue his own entrepreneurial venture.

Confirming the same in a conversation with People Matters, Chandel said, “We have two lives; the second one starts when we realise when we have only one. I will be venturing on my own, working with startups and entrepreneurs with strong ethics and values and are keen to grow big.”

Chandel joined the Tata Group way back in 2005 when he joined Tata AutoComp Systems as President - Human Resources. He played a critical role in developing skilled talent and spearheading many change initiatives in the organization in his 14-year-long association. Under his leadership, Tata Motors strove to continuously develop talent, especially the young talent they hired from several leading engineering institutes. He envisioned not only making the organisation future-ready, but also the industry, through long term partnerships in collaboration with some of the best engineering institutes in the country.

According to the internal mail, Chandel will continue till his successor takes over and will only leave after ensuring a smooth hand-over and successful transition.

Prior to joining Tata Group, Chandel, who has completed his master’s in public administration from the Punjab University, was associated with Siemens for more than 13 years and had moved on from the organization at the level of General Manager & Group Head – Shared Services.
