Alibaba, Chinese e-commerce group brings on board Priya Cherian as a Director of Human Resource to lead its talent acquisition and HR processes as company is looking forward to start its own consumer-facing marketplace in next six to eight months. 

Priya Cherian was earlier working with Flipkart, which she joined in April last year. Prior to this, Cherian worked as Director in HR with tech giant - Yahoo for almost 7 years. She is also associated for about a year with Reynolds and Reynolds and a startup company WorkflowOne. 

This is a crucial appointment for Alibaba Group as it has made pivotal investments in Paytm, India’s largest mobile commerce platform and payments service provider. Also, it placed its big bucks in Snapdeal, one of the leading online shopping portals. 

As per the news reports, Alibaba is looking forward to expand its base in India by exploring acquisition options in Flipkart and Snapdeal. Also, it has hired many senior executives in India to prepare its blueprint for expansion and growth. Alibaba, in addition, is looking to acquire some startups which will be relevant for their business. 

Alibaba group, which began in 1999 provides consumer-to-consumer, business-to-consumer and business-to-business services through its web portals. It is also into data-centric cloud computing along with electronic payment services. Also, it acts as a shopping search engine online.
