Google and Coursera launch program for IT professionals

According to the latest report, Google has developed an online education program which would provide certification to people, and is being seen as a philanthropic push by the technology giant.

Sundar Pichai had last year announced, that Google would give $1 billion over five years to non-profits who would be contributing to the employment of people. It would fund 10,000 participant programs, pooled from $1 billion, it had already pledged.

The program has been designed in partnership with Coursera Inc. The purpose of the program is to help people who do not possess the educational qualifications in terms of degrees, or who do not have any formal training but would want to work in the IT industry, and especially as support specialists.

According to another report, the program would teach and test across six fundamental areas of customer support, troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, automation, and security.

“As technology advances change or replace more jobs, we must create more pathways for people to jump into the new, high-paying careers of the future,” Jeff Maggioncalda, Coursera’s CEO.

The program has been developed based on the training of the support staff that Google offers to its own employees.
