Opportunities mounting for freshers: Wipro

Wipro – the leading strategic IT partner for companies across India and Middle East is planning to employ about 11,000 freshers during the current fiscal (2010-11) with 65 per cent of them being engineers and the rest from other streams.

Wipro – the leading strategic IT partner for companies across India and Middle East is planning to employ about 11,000 freshers during the current fiscal (2010-11) with 65 per cent of them being engineers and the rest from other streams.

Wipro Ltd's Executive Vice-President, HR, Brand and Communications, Mr Pratik Kumar, told Business Line that this decision to expand its potential talent pool to the non-engineering graduates was a ‘conscious one' that the company took several years ago and the multiple years of experience in following this practise has helped them scale up the numbers.
He said though training costs may go up marginally because of the broadening the talent pool to non-engineers, this would be offset by the fact that they would come at different costs.

In another trend-setting HR exercise, Wipro has increased its local hires outside India substantially this year and this initiative would not impact costs as the company would save on visa costs apart from the fact that the company has charted their career growth plans and their job roles in advance, he added.

And Wipro has already added 38 partner-level people who understand the customers' industry and it would add more if necessary, he said.
