Go for offbeat courses to earn good salaries

Students and parents think these courses lead to blue collar jobs - and they give up a good career and good salaries, Economic Times reported. Every year 500-800 students who qualify for IITs and other top technology courses but don't make it to the popular and so-called prestigious courses - computer science, electronics & communication, and electrical engineering - don't enrol at all.

This year, in a bid to avoid these low-prestige courses, 769 students lost the chance to study at the IITs. HR experts and faculty say this is a serious error of judgement. Graduates of courses such as geology & geophysics, mining, architecture, ceramic and paper & pulp engineering attract salaries comparable to the best offered in any other stream.
