Overwork taking emotional toll on corporate India executives

In an attempt to understand the consumer psyche, Cadbury India conducted a survey over 2,100 professionals in the 25-35 age group in cities including Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, etc, so as to use to the data to craft its new advertising campaign this festive season. According to the survey findings, 66 percent of working professionals in India are suffering loneliness, 77 percent wish they had someone to share their highs and lows with, and 63 percent feel they work harder than they want to because of competitive work environment. Psychologists say the problem is growing because work pressures are robbing people of time for emotional engagement. They put forth the view that because of technology and the use of smartphones, they never switch off from work completely thus leading to anxiety, depressive symptoms and, in some cases, even seizure-like episodes.
