Tata Motors Corp Comm Head asked to proceed on leave on allegations of misconduct

In a week that has seen the #MeToo movement exploding in its entirety, corporate India too has come under the scanner on how women are treated at the workplace. This time, the ball has rolled into Tata Motors’ court with allegations leveled against Suresh Rangarajan, Head of Corp Comm, Tata Motors of harassing multiple women.

In a tweet writer, Sandhya Menon shared screenshots of a long WhatsApp message chronicling instances of where women complained of being subjected to unacceptable behavior by Rangarajan. It read  – ‘On Suresh Rangarajan, Head of Corp Comm, Tata Motors. I’m just so sad that young women still go through this every day’.

The write up chronicles multiple occasions where many women have had to put up with behavior that’s not acceptable at the workplace.

In response to Menon’s tweet, Tata Motors HR stated, “At Tata Motors, we have always striven to ensure a respectful and safe workplace for everyone. Any allegations are investigated and appropriate action is taken immediately. This matter has already been taken up for investigation by the Internal Complaints Committee, set up as per law. Any such behavior is against the Tata code of conduct and appropriate action will be taken as soon the inquiry is completed.”

Tata Motors has also tweeted that in light of the inquiry by ICC, Suresh Rangarajan, has been asked to proceed on leave in order to allow for an objective inquiry to be completed as swiftly as possible.
