Govt rolls out NATS 2.0 to boost skilling, disburses ₹100 Cr for apprentices
Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) 2.0 Portal, accompanied by the disbursement of ₹100 crore in stipends to apprentices through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. This scheme is designed to support apprentices in sectors such as IT/ITes, manufacturing, and automobile.
“The NATS Portal 2.0 is a significant effort to democratise apprenticeship, bridge the skills gap, and fulfil youth aspirations,” said Pradhan.
He emphasised that in the current technology-driven age, “it is not only about attaining degrees but also building competencies,” urging educational institutions and industries to engage with the new portal.
The NATS 2.0 Portal is expected to facilitate a broad range of beneficiaries in registering for apprenticeships. Establishments and industries will also use the portal to manage vacancies and contracts, aiming to support young graduates and diploma holders in acquiring employability skills with a guaranteed monthly stipend.
Ramesh Alluri Reddy, CEO of TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, highlighted that “the enhanced functionalities of NATS 2.0 will streamline processes, reduce administrative burdens, and provide real-time tracking and reporting.”
He noted that the portal will make apprenticeships more accessible and efficient, contributing to a proactive pipeline of skilled workers for the future.
