Layoff spree: GoDaddy to sack nearly 500 employees, 8% workers to get affected

It seems like the layoff spree that began in 2022, will not slow down anytime soon. Several major companies are sacking their employees and the new one to join the list is GoDaddy.

The company announced kicking out 8% of its existing employees recently. This is likely to impact nearly 500 workers.

The layoff news was shared by CEO Aman Bhutani in an internal email to staff on Feb 8. In his mail, he attributed the decision to ‘increasingly challenging macroeconomic conditions.’

“Within the next hour, impacted team members will receive a meeting invite from their leadership to learn the details of their transition, aligned with the local alignment processes,” the email read.

The layoff is said to affect employees mostly in the United States. Multiple levels and every division of the Tempe-headquartered internet domain registrar and web hosting company will be fired.

On the other hand, the layoffs will help in the integration of three GoDaddy brands – Main Street Hub, Main Temple, and 123 Reg – into the firm.

Several GoDaddy employees took to Twitter to share that they have been laid off. Here are some of the tweets. Take a look.

Not just GoDaddy, there are several small-scale businesses and tech giants that have fired their employees in the midst of the ongoing economic slowdown. However, companies like Apple are refraining from slashing their staff.
