Monster employment index India rises 5% y-o-y

The Monster employment index, a monthly barometer of online hiring by online job portal Monster.com, rose at a moderate 5% from a year ago in August. Among sectors, the shipping and marine industry recorded the highest growth at 58 percent while printing and packaging also recorded strong annual growth at 23 percent followed by garments/textiles/gems and jewellery at 21 percent. However, the government and PSU sector witnessed the steepest annual decline on the index with a 25 percent fall. Among cities, Coimbatore and Jaipur led all cities in annual growth at 40 percent and 14 percent respectively. Chandigarh, down by 6% was among the slowest markets in terms of hiring activity.
