You may wonder what the mandates are to run such a successful business. The answer is simple yet believable. Nasir Khan, Managing Director - HR, BNY Mellon (India) quips, “I believe mandates are specific to individual organizations. For us, it is really a sound business and people strategy which are clearly defined. Smart execution of these strategies results in a thriving workplace. When an organization enjoys a collective vision, the output is unbeatable. BNY Mellon has always believed in its vision and core values, and our employees share the same viewpoint; thus we are successful.” People Matters brings you excerpts from the exclusive interview with James McEleney and Nasir Khan.

How it is working in BNY Mellon (India)?
James McEleney: Our employees have the opportunity to work in a very diverse, global and learning environment. Our people are diverse, not only in terms of where they call home within India but also in terms of gender, education, the work they perform and the business lines with whom they work. We nurture this diversity by creating opportunities for people to work together. One of our core strengths is our dedication to our employees’ growth, career development and recognition. Our operations in India are totally integrated with the global strategy and we receive a lot of visibility and support from our Global Leadership team. BNY Mellon (India) is truly operated as another location in our global footprint, and our senior management from all parts of the globe come to this office regularly to meet with employees.

What makes BNY Mellon (India) a great workplace?
James McEleney: In my opinion, to be a great workplace, companies need to first aspire to be one and then work towards being successful. Once the ambition is there, then the actions, behaviours, and initiatives need to be aligned to making it a reality. For BNY Mellon, I think the combination of aspirations and actions has made us a great workplace, and at the end of the day, the employees make the judgment.

What are the key ingredients which make you a great workplace?
Nasir Khan: There is a combination of factors which contribute to us being a great workplace. I would say the focal point is the implementation of our core values in the workplace. We provide our employees with an open and transparent culture based on a high level of integrity and trust. Our employees are an integral part of this organization and are involved in every phase of development. This combination is very powerful and fuels our success.
