If ‘strong & swift action' is not taken against those involved in this crime, it will encourage many others to resort to similar violent tactics
What happened in Manesar is deplorable and deserves strongest condemnation. If violence is considered as an option to solve any issues, then as a nation and as an economy, we are sending a very wrong signal. Industrial relations is based on a delicate balance and when anti-social elements hijack the essence of this sacred process for their own gains, then the fabric of industrial harmony is frayed. If strong and swift action is not taken against those involved in this crime, then it will encourage many others to resort to similar violent tactics. This will undoubtedly have serious implications on economic growth and will result in instability. Besides this, time has come to take a very serious look at reviewing our obsolete, weak and irrelevant labor laws. They have not kept pace with changing times and circumstances and if these laws are not made relevant and strong, we will keep putting out fires as they happen. It is time to stop simply talking about these changes – but act.
