Yes Bank L&D Head on digital learning for the remote workforce

The COVID-19 crisis and especially the lockdown changed the status quo for everyone. The workspace was badly impacted in the last few months but organizations are bouncing back with multiple changes in their daily routine. During this period the traditional formats of training have become impossible to execute. It is hence imperative for the L&D function to overcome these challenges by adopting newer methodologies that are tuned to these changing times. Though a case format, this session will give you insights in terms of how a learning function can overcome these challenges and execute impact-driven learning interventions.

To share his thoughts about the impact-driven digital learning interventions for the remote workforce, Binoj Vasu, Chief Learning Officer, Yes Bank shared his thoughts on the road ahead for the organizations.

Vasu said, “For a learning mindset we need to have three key things in the organization. First, the leaders should be keen and second the learning team needs to show interest and the learners should be agile to grasp the method of digital learning.

This crisis has given a boost to digital learning and not only in terms of consumption but more of acceptance. There was an alarming situation about digital learning before the lockdown but it created a mind-space among the tech and non-tech savvy companies.

In the last few years, the mind-set of the leadership team has changed and with their keen interests, employees are opting for digital learning to enhance their skills which also leads to a massive change in the world of workspace.

The industry veteran added, “Change happens slowly and if you don’t feel the pinch, changes don’t happen. If it doesn’t challenge you it will not change you.

Highlight about the learners, he mentioned that an organization can’t help its employees if they will not be agile in adapting the digital courses.

7 key steps in digital learning

Learning will always stay relevant but the form may change over a period of time. He stressed the companies should focus on the journey and not the vehicle. Taking the digital journey is on top priority and not waiting for the premium tool. He shared seven key steps for the learning heads to follow that will help them reach from point a to b.

  • Create a responsible learning team of trainers and bring agile learners to become part of the learning team.
  • Look out for collaboration with other organizations and learn from their strategy.
  • Push for digital learning and especially mobile learning that can be accessed from anywhere to any shift.
  • Go for free content and quick certification programs if there is a budget constraint.
  • Make a strategy that consists of do’s and don’ts and start with deeper initiatives.
  • Build the easiest plan that goes with the learner and trainer.
  • Be flexible with timelines of learning and have mandatory checkpoints.
