Differentiator: Focus on executive education in India

The fourth of the IIM series after Calcutta, Ahmedabad and Bangalore, IIM Lucknow has a sprawling campus of 190 acres in the heritage city of Lucknow. It is the first IIM to set up a satellite campus exclusively for executive education at Noida.

The school offers that the following courses: Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGPABM), Post Graduate Programme in Business Management for Working Managers (WMP), International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX), Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and Management Development Programmes (MDPs). Three of the institute’s programmes have been accorded the AMBA accreditation. It was awarded in November 2011 and is applicable until October 2016. The re-assessment will take place in September 2016.

It is not just students who gain from the exposure but also working professionals, entrepreneurs and mid-level and senior-level executives who want to enhance their skills while working in current business environment. A core component of the one-year IPMX is an international module of 4-5 weeks at Faculty of Management, McGill University, Montreal Canada.

Devi Singh is the current director of IIM-L. His term has been extended for another six months or till his successor is appointed, whichever is earlier, as the model code of conduct has come into force.

The mission of IIM-L is to help improve management systems with regard to business, industry and public services through pursuit of excellence in management education, research, consultancy and training. In order to ensure that every member of IIM-L strives for excellence in every endeavour, continuous improvement in curricula and pedagogical tools are made.

Special Centres of Excellence such as Agriculture Management Centre, Centre for Leadership in Human Values and Centre for Entrepreneur Development and New Venture Management have been established across the two campuses in Lucknow and Noida. One interesting fact about IIM-L is that its first batch consisted of 30 students and they had to walk on 3.4km to the campus due to its remote location.

IIM-L has partnered with 32 institutes across the world such as Brock University, ESCP Europe, Singapore Management University, REIMS Management School, Universiteit Van Amsterdam, Leipzig Graduate School of Management etc. The institute believes that students have to be exposed to the world and to different cultures.

One of the major ideals of the institute is to become a world-renowned research centre so that it moves from imparting education to knowledge creation, dissemination and application mode in an integrative form. Hence, IIM-L has decided to concentrate on a Globalization Programme for undertaking collaborative programmes involving exchange of faculty, doctoral and graduate students with its global counterparts.
