SCMS, a business management institute with a pursuit for quality, started its PGDM program in 1992 and since its inception it has been consistently updating its curriculum to meet industry needs. The students are selected based on their aptitude entrance test scores along with a specific weightage to graduation scores aggregating to a composite score, which comprises 25 per cent for graduation and aptitude test each, 30 per cent for personal interview and 20 per cent for group discussions.

A minimum of 60 percentage is required to be eligible for admissions, while students with up to 90-92 percentage also come in equal numbers. The institute offers specialized management courses in the streams, Banking, Retail, HR, Finance, Marketing and Operations.

The pedagogy at SCMS is a substantial mix of classroom learning and practical learning, where a 3 credit course means 100 hours of study distributed in a 70-30 ratio. It implies that 70 hours of a student’s time is spent on assignments and real time projects while the remaining 30 hours are spent into classroom lectures. The classroom learning module includes case-study discussions as a regular regime along with industry visits in each term adding to the exposure.

The institute also organizes a unique program every week, called the ‘institute-industry interaction’ where CEOs, CFOs and CXOs from organizations visit and share their experiences. In addition to this, there is an alumni ‘homecoming’ session each month, wherein one of the institute’s established alumni shares his/her experiences and learning to motivate the existing students. The institute also offers specialized skill-based MDPs for organizations and corporates like India Posts, SBI, Wipro etc.

The institute conducts a two-day national seminar for either of its management streams, every month, where at least eight industry experts come and share their experiences with the students to provide them industry specific national and international exposure. The institute is ACBSP accredited and has been recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It has some student exchange programs for International Business under a tie-up with a university from Japan. The institute also has a tie-up with the North Carolina Central University, under which its students participate in the ‘international business plan contest’ and the year before last, they also won the first prize. Students from SCMS get to go to summer schools at various international universities and the institute also invites students from those schools to study a part of their specific credit courses here.

As a part of a CSR based tie-up with the University of Applied Sciences, Germany, the institute has involved its students in preparing a water atlas for a nearby village also helping them provide purified water, in turn making the students learn the importance of being socially responsible. The vision of the institute guides it to build leadership amongst students while inculcating a balance of knowledge and the right skills in them.
