Perplexity AI debuts on WhatsApp — Next stop: Voice, videos & more

Perplexity AI is going full throttle on messaging apps! Just days after gauging interest, CEO Aravind Srinivas took to LinkedIn to announce that the Perplexity chatbot is now live on WhatsApp. But that’s not all — you can also chat with it on Telegram under the handle @askplexbot, and even on X (formerly Twitter). AI help is now just a message away!
Further, the chatbot witnessed a high demand. “Perplexity’s WhatsApp bot has seen unprecedented demand-volume is far beyond anything we anticipated,” Srinivas said on LinkedIn. Have fun forwarding messages to it for fact checks, or directly chatting for answers and free form text conversations and creating images, he added in another post.
Just like Perplexity, ChatGPT is now available right on WhatsApp—alongside Meta’s own built-in AI. This smart integration brings the power of Perplexity directly to your chats, with zero downloads, no sign-ups, and no hassle.
Forget juggling extra apps or eating up your phone’s storage—just message and go. Whether you're looking for quick answers, summaries, or help with anything under the sun, Perplexity and ChatGPT are now only a WhatsApp away.
How to Access Perplexity AI on WhatsApp
To access Perplexity AI, start asking questions or queries. Users can access Perplexity AI on smartphones, PCs, and Macs, as well as via WhatsApp Web.
“You can now forward any WhatsApp message to Perplexity +1 (833) 436-3285 and get it fact checked instantly. This is super useful when WhatsApp groups are filled with a ton of forwarded messages which could be misleading,” informed Srinivas.
To access Perplexity AI on WhatsApp, follow these steps:
-
Open WhatsApp: Launch the WhatsApp application on your device.
-
Start a new chat: Tap on the chat icon to initiate a new conversation.
-
Search for Perplexity AI: In the search bar, type 'Perplexity AI' to locate the official contact.
-
Initiate the chat: Select the Perplexity AI contact and send a message to begin interacting.
This integration allows you to leverage Perplexity AI's capabilities directly within WhatsApp, providing a seamless experience without the need for additional apps or sign-ups.
If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, consider using automation platforms like Albato or Make to set up custom workflows between Perplexity AI and WhatsApp.
Voice Mode, Multimedia Features & Group Chat Integration Coming Soon
According to Srinivas, exciting new features are on the horizon for the AI chatbot's WhatsApp integration. In the coming days, users can expect a major upgrade with capabilities like voice mode, meme and video generation, fact-checking tools, and broader AI assistant functionalities. These additions aim to transform the chatbot from a simple text-based assistant into a more dynamic, multimedia-capable tool right within WhatsApp.
One particular anticipated feature is WhatsApp group integration, allowing Perplexity to participate in group chats and offer collaborative assistance, much like a real-time research partner. However, this functionality is currently on hold as WhatsApp's API does not yet support AI bots in group settings.
Meanwhile, Perplexity has also been enhancing its mobile experience. The iOS app recently received a significant update, introducing voice interaction and improved cross-app capabilities — features that allow the AI to interact with and assist across different native iPhone applications.
These tools make Perplexity a true on-the-go assistant, capable of performing complex tasks through natural language prompts. Notably, Android users have enjoyed some of these advanced features for a while, and now iPhone users are catching up with a much richer experience.
How Perplexity AI on WhatsApp Supercharges Your Workday
Perplexity AI on WhatsApp can be a powerful productivity tool at the workplace, offering quick access to information, content creation, and real-time support—all within the messaging app people already use. Here’s how it can benefit managers in various roles and HR executives.
Just ask—no Googling, no guesswork
You can get instant answers to questions without switching apps or opening browsers. A marketing manager, for example, can ask about the top social media trends in 2025 and receive a summarised, up-to-date response directly on WhatsApp.
Forward it for instant fact-checking
Forward any message to Perplexity AI for quick verification, reducing misinformation or errors in work communication. A sales manager, for instance, receives a claim about a competitor's pricing in a group chat. He can forward it to Perplexity and get a reliable fact-check in seconds before deciding further course of action.
Get drafts in seconds
Generate email drafts, reports, or social media posts just by chatting with the AI. For example, an HR executive can instruct the app to draft a reminder email for tomorrow’s team-building event and get a ready-to-send message.
Generate images on the fly
You can create visuals for presentations or marketing without opening a design tool. For example, a content creator can ask to create an image of a futuristic city at sunrise and receive a ready-to-use graphic.
Group chat integration is on the way
When this feature will be added to Perplexity, teams will be able to collaborate with the AI directly in WhatsApp group chats. For example, during a group chat about a client pitch, someone can tag Perplexity to pull industry data or suggest pitch ideas in real-time.
Behind the Brilliance: Limitations & Loopholes of Perplexity AI
Perplexity AI is a smart, fast, and user-friendly assistant—but even the smartest tools have blind spots. From occasional inaccuracies and privacy concerns to limited context awareness and integration gaps, it’s important to know where this AI might fall short. Think of it as a powerful tool—just make sure you’re still in the driver’s seat.
Hallucinations: Like other generative AI models, Perplexity can sometimes 'hallucinate' — generating plausible-sounding but incorrect information.
Over-reliance on AI summaries: Users may take AI-generated summaries at face value without verifying against original sources. This can lead to misinterpretations or reliance on outdated or biased information.
Data privacy concerns: While Perplexity emphasises privacy, any AI system that processes input data (especially messaging apps like WhatsApp) can raise concerns about data security, logging, and third-party access.
Limited context awareness: It has a limited memory of previous interactions unless it’s part of an ongoing chat thread. It may not always understand follow-up questions or remember user preferences.
Language & cultural bias: Trained on vast datasets from the internet, the AI may unintentionally reflect cultural, gender, or political biases in its responses.
API & integration limitations: On platforms like WhatsApp, current API limitations (e.g., no group chat support yet) restrict full functionality. Users may have a different experience compared to using Perplexity on web or native apps.
Lack of human judgment: It lacks nuance, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking — essential for decision-making, especially in sensitive or complex scenarios.
Citation overload or misuse: Although Perplexity often cites sources, users may misinterpret these citations as endorsements or academic-grade references, which they’re not always intended to be.
