The biggest focus in 2012 would be on retention. From a business perspective, it is not about people having more opportunities, the amount of effort that one puts for every good employee that one loses, is immense. Apart from the business metrics, good employees bring in lot of solidity to the entire team and culture, so when a good resource leaves an organization, the impact is felt by many people. This trend has emerged again because we are moving into a period of uncertainty. Caution is already creeping in and from this perspective, it is crucial that companies need to plan for the worst and if the worst would be that there might not be considerable expansion, then in order for businesses to be carried out effectively, the focus will have to move to retention.

Another upcoming trend in the coming year would be the impact of social media on organizations. The acceptance of people using social media is encouraging and the world is now heading towards a so-lo-mo, it is social, local and mobile and whatever we have done in the last 12 months is just fitting into these parameters.
