In an exclusive interaction with People Matters, Rayan, who will be speaking at TechHR 2019, shares about the role of AI in talent acquisition and how can organizations leverage AI effectively yet balance the human element in HR.

What are some of the newest advancements in Talent Acquisition on account of AI?

AI has provided talent leaders with quicker insight into candidates - primarily in three areas - resume screening, talent pool identification, and predicting future talent needs.

What are some of the challenges that these technologies will help address and how will they augment HR’s role?

Today one recruiter handles perhaps thousands of applicants. AI speeds that process and lets the recruiter focus on the people aspect of the equation. Overall efficiency is also able to be increased given the sheer processing power of computers.

There is a lot of discussion on what could be the long term effects of AI on the future of jobs. What are your views on that-does the long term good outdo the short term harms?

Long term effects of digitization will be beneficial. Doing things more efficiently helps us all.  The challenge will still be - does efficiency outlay ethics, responsibility, and does it replace the human touch?  People will still be needed, but their time and talents can be put to work in a more thoughtful way.

How do you think organizations can leverage AI effectively yet balance the human element in HR?

HR is a people business. Without the human touch, organizations will fail. Using AI behind the scenes is the best way to leverage a very unpersonable technology.

What does the world of work of tomorrow look like to you?

The world of work looks like one of continuous learning and skill acquisition. One in which we don’t rely on what we have learned, but strive to learn more.  Flexibility and adaptability will also be key to success.

How can organizations prepare employees for the changes that will come with more of AI making its way in the workplace?

Communication at a personal level will spell the difference between success and failure in organizations. People by nature are skeptical, without proactive, timely communication, organizations risk losing their employees engagement.
