Holistic wellness is the key to organisational resilience: Truworth Wellness’ Rohit Chohan

As corporations evolve, prioritising employee well-being has shifted from a trend to a strategic imperative, impacting both productivity and organizational success. As organisations grapple with a multitude of challenges such as burnout and rising healthcare costs, the conversation around employees’ holistic well-being has become more nuanced and is gaining increased traction.

But how are organisations truly addressing the holistic well-being of employees? What effective strategies ensure these well-being drives are impactful and scalable? To address such pressing questions and gain insightful perspectives into the evolving wellness space, People Matters engaged in a compelling conversation with Rohit Chohan, Co-founder and CEO, Truworth Wellness:

Last year, we had the pleasure of speaking with you about the evolving landscape of corporate wellness. It's inspiring to witness how Truworth Wellness continues to lead the way in this space. Today, we'd like to delve deeper into how Truworth is uniquely positioned to provide a comprehensive wellness solution for organisations.

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss Truworth Wellness’s vision and impact in the corporate wellness space. Over the years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to not just addressing the immediate needs of employee health, but also anticipating how those needs evolve, positioning ourselves as a true wellness partner for organisations.

Our approach is rooted in the belief that sustainable wellness programs must be holistic, integrating preventive care, primary care, and well-being into one cohesive platform. This approach not only makes healthcare accessible but also empowers employees with the resources they need to proactively manage their health, both physically and mentally.

  1. Preventive Care at the Forefront: At Truworth, we emphasize preventive care as a primary strategy for corporate health & wellbeing. Through health risk assessments, annual health checks, our proprietary Care Assessment programme and digital health monitoring, we help individuals and companies identify health risks early. This proactive stance allows organisations to intervene early, which not only improves employee health outcomes but also reduces the financial burden of reactive care.
  2. Integrated Primary Care Access: Our platform seamlessly integrates primary care to ensure employees have timely access to healthcare services, reducing the chances of complications from undiagnosed or unmanaged conditions. By connecting employees to primary care resources, whether virtually or on-site, we’re able to reduce barriers to care, encourage regular health check-ups, and build a culture of continuous health engagement.
  3. Wellbeing Programs Including Mental Health Support: Recognizing that mental health is foundational to overall well-being, we’ve designed programs that support both physical and mental health needs. These programs range from stress management and resilience training to customised mental health support and counselling, tailored to fit the unique culture of each organization. This balanced focus helps in creating healthier work environments and improving employee engagement and productivity.
  4. Data-Driven, Measurable Outcomes: We believe that wellness programs should yield measurable outcomes. Using advanced data analytics, we provide insights on health trends, risk areas, and the ROI of wellness interventions. This data-driven approach enables organisations to see tangible results and continuously refine their wellness strategy for maximum impact.
  5. A Unified and Sustainable Solution: By combining preventive care, primary care, and wellbeing into a single, integrated solution, we offer a sustainable approach that’s scalable and adaptable to the changing health needs of organisations. This model not only fosters a healthier workforce but also leads to reduced healthcare costs, lower absenteeism, and greater organizational resilience.

We understand that Truworth offers a suite of solutions that covers the entire wellness spectrum. Can you tell us more about this unique approach? What led you to create this holistic approach?

At Truworth Wellness, we recognized that the evolving needs of modern organizations required a more comprehensive and integrated approach to employee well-being. The traditional methods of evaluating employee health—primarily focused on hospitalisation rates, insurance claims, or specific health issues—were no longer adequate to address the full spectrum of well-being that employees need to thrive.

What led us to create this holistic approach was our understanding that employee wellness is multifaceted. It's not just about physical health but also about mental, emotional, and social well-being. Traditional wellness programs tend to be fragmented, focusing on one area at a time, such as fitness or mental health. This segmented view does not account for the complex, interrelated challenges that employees face in today’s fast-paced and often stressful work environments. For example, stress and burnout can lead to physical health issues, while a lack of work-life balance can affect both mental health and productivity. This insight drove us to design an integrated and holistic wellness platform that addresses all aspects of employee health. As part of this approach, we launched three new solutions, that are  CarePass™, WellPass™, and ThrivePass™. These are built to seamlessly connect physical fitness, mental health, and emotional support and to meet the diverse needs of employee populations, from stress management to long-term habit-building, ensuring that no aspect of wellness is overlooked.

In addition to this, we have tried to solve a major challenge that HR teams face - that is measurability of these programs. We don’t just focus on metrics like program utilization or cost savings, which are common in traditional wellness programs. Instead, we emphasize on health outcomes, such as reduced stress, improved fitness levels, decreased sick days, and enhanced overall productivity. By tracking key indicators like participation rates, health risk assessments, and biometric improvements, we can ensure that our programs deliver meaningful, long-term benefits to both employees and organizations. Ultimately, we designed this holistic approach to not only prevent illness but also to enhance overall well-being, empowering employees to be their healthiest, happiest, and most productive selves.

That's an impressive range. Can you elaborate on the specific benefits organisations and employees can expect from each of these solutions? What, in your experience, has worked best for your customers?

  • CarePass™: For organizations, CarePass™ offers the dual advantage of early detection and reduced healthcare costs. By providing access to primary and preventive care, including onsite options, organisations can identify and manage potential health issues before they escalate, which in turn lowers long-term healthcare expenses. This proactive approach also translates into a healthier workforce, leading to decreased absenteeism and heightened productivity. Employees benefit from the ability to prioritize their health with regular check-ups and preventive services, which helps in managing health issues more effectively. The convenience of onsite options makes it easier for employees to fit health check-ups into their busy schedules, thus removing common barriers to accessing care. Integrating regular health screenings with onsite services has proven particularly effective, as it addresses health concerns early and supports overall employee well-being.
  • WellPass™: Organisations see notable benefits from WellPass™ through enhanced productivity and sustainable health improvements. By encouraging employees to adopt healthier lifestyle choices via personalised fitness and nutrition plans, companies often witness increased energy levels and better productivity. This program also supports the development of long-term healthy habits, which helps in mitigating lifestyle-related health issues. Employees gain from personalized fitness and nutrition plans that boost their energy and improve their quality of life. Additionally, these sustainable health habits enable a better work-life balance, reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being.
  • ThrivePass™: This program brings significant advantages to organisations by addressing mental well-being, which results in increased resilience and productivity among employees. By providing resources and programs that support mental health, organizations foster a more resilient and engaged workforce. This focus on mental health also enhances employee engagement, reducing burnout and improving job satisfaction. For employees, ThrivePassTM offers access to essential mental health resources, helping them manage stress and emotional challenges more effectively. The support for mental health contributes to a more balanced and fulfilling life, positively impacting both personal and professional areas.

Truworth Wellness is truly redefining the way organizations approach employee well-being. What are your growth and expansion plans to continue shaping the future of corporate wellness? Why do you think this is the need of the hour?

At Truworth Wellness, our endeavor is to transform the future of corporate wellness by addressing both current needs and emerging trends. Our growth and expansion plans are meticulously designed to align with the evolving needs of modern workplaces, where a focus on mental, physical, and emotional health is increasingly critical.

We are concentrating on three key areas to continue shaping the future of corporate wellness:

  1. Technological Innovation: We are committed to continually enhancing our platform with cutting-edge analytics, AI-driven health insights, and seamless integration with various healthcare stakeholders. Our aim is to offer maximum choice to employees, while providing organisations with real-time health data. This empowers companies to proactively address health risks and make informed decisions, ensuring that wellness programs are both effective and responsive.
  2. Personalization of Wellness Programs: Recognising that each organisation and employee has unique needs, we are dedicated to delivering highly personalised wellness programs. These programs are tailored to individual health profiles, lifestyle goals, and specific organisational challenges, ensuring that every employee receives support that is both relevant and impactful.
  3. Global Expansion and Strategic Partnerships: To broaden our impact, we are exploring new markets both nationally and internationally. By forming strategic partnerships with insurance providers, healthcare entities, and technology partners, we are expanding our reach and enhancing our service offerings. This strategic approach allows us to bring our comprehensive wellness solutions to a wider audience and drive positive change on a global scale.

These initiatives address the direct link between employee well-being and key organisational outcomes such as productivity, job satisfaction, and retention. By leading the way in holistic corporate wellness, we aim to help organisations create healthier, happier, and more productive workforces for the future.

How can organisations make the most of these programs and improve utilisation? How does Truworth Wellness help in the measurement and success of these programs?

In the realm of wellness programs, optimal utilisation is a critical concept that often requires deeper consideration. As an expert in this area, I emphasize that when addressing preventive care, it is essential to aim for complete engagement—targeting 100% utilisation. Preventive health screenings should serve as the cornerstone of any wellness initiative. Without a comprehensive understanding of the health risks within the employees, designing an effective strategy can be challenging. To maximize the impact of wellness programs and improve utilization, organisations need to focus on three critical strategies:

  • Engaging Communication: Effective promotion of wellness programs is essential to maximize participation. Organisations should use a variety of communication channels—such as emails, mobile apps, and webinars—to raise awareness and educate employees about the benefits. Additionally, offering incentives and rewards for participation can significantly enhance engagement and motivate employees to take part in wellness initiatives.
  • Customization and Personalization: Wellness programs should be tailored to address the diverse needs of the workforce. A one-size-fits-all approach is often ineffective; instead, programs should offer flexibility to cater to physical, mental, and emotional health needs. Providing options like fitness challenges, mindfulness sessions, and personalised nutrition plans can make programs more relevant and engaging for employees.
  • Leadership Advocacy: When leadership actively supports and participates in wellness initiatives, it sets a positive example for the entire organization. Demonstrating that wellness is a priority at the top levels of the company encourages employees to engage with the programs, reinforcing the message that their well-being is valued.
