Do you know ABCDE of Inspirational Leadership?

“Leadership is based on a spiritual quality; the power to inspire; the power to inspire others to follow”- Vince Lombardi.

For the organization to reach great heights, inspiring leadership is essential. You depend on people to get things done, but people do things for their own reasons, not yours. So nothing will happen unless everyone down the line knows where to go and what they are trying to achieve. It is your responsibility to show them the way and inspire people to give their best to achieve a desired outcome and maintain effective relationship with individuals and team as a whole to make things happen and deliver results.

Inspirational leaders instill interest in their hearts and minds of people to bring desirable change from within. It provides intrinsic motivations, stimulation, innovations, encouragement, and engagement and influence people to achieve great things in their life. When people get inspired, quality, productivity, performance, relations and team spirit improves.

An inspirational leader focuses on five keys A-B-C-D-E (Attitude, Behavior, Confidence, Desire and Enthusiasm). Therefore, inspirational leadership is the ability of leader to induce team to work with right Attitude, appropriate Behavior, great Confidence, strong Desire, and high Enthusiasm to attain higher level of achievements.

Attitude

The first key to inspire people is to alter their attitude as psychologist and author William James said “the greatest discovery of our generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind, As you think, so shall you be”.

As a people leader, it is your responsibility to ensure that all your team members have the right attitude. You can stimulate people to positivity by creating awareness, increasing their willingness, changing their perceptions, and creating a positive environment where the right words are spoken. The way you talk to people can perpetuate their attitudes because words trigger pictures, which trigger their emotions that develop their attitude. As Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never goes back to its original dimensions“so an attitude can change the life of people.

Behavior

The second key for a leader is to have appropriate behavior. Attitudes are crucial because they drive the behaviors of people; when you alter the thinking pattern of your team members, it changes their reaction to you and their behavior. Behaviors are contagious. You can change the behaviours of people by recognising and appreciating their positive actions, giving them constructive feedback and being a role model for them to behave better, perform better and to progress faster. Inspiring leadership can be an important modifier of people’s behavior; by communicating the right, positive words, thoughts and demonstrating behaviour day in day out you can alter your team’s attitudes at a subconscious level, which in turns alter their behaviours positively.

Confidence

The third important key is to instill confidence in people to achieve great success. A confident leader exudes confidence to others. As Norman Vincent Peale said, “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” As a leader, you need to instill confidence within people. Trust and faith in leaders play a vital role in building confidence in people. Confidence is the lever for inspiration. Success residence in confidence, so build confidence in people to inspire

Desire

The fourth key is to inculcate a strong desire in people to achieve their goals. Remember, the swiftness of their progress and success will depend on the depth of their desires. If you generate a burning desire in people, they will go all out to achieve extraordinary results. So encourage them to pursue their interests, motivate them to take up initiatives and ready them for greater challenges and responsibilities.

Enthusiasm

The fifth and the last significant key is to stir up their enthusiasm. To achieve anything great, enthusiasm is very vital. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said “nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”. If you make them love their jobs, you will see great success in all their endeavors. Enthusiasm creates a strong feeling of excitement and interest in people to achieve agreed goals and it increases their involvement in attaining higher goals.

To sum up, an inspired and motivated team is very essential for any business organization that hopes to stay ahead of the competition. To be a successful leader, you have to inspire and influence the attitude, behaviors, confidence, desire and enthusiasm in the people to go extra mile for their organization. Instill interest in the hearts and minds of people and make the work more interesting, fun, captivating and enjoyable. So get inspiration and give inspiration to team to achieve great success in their personal and professional life. Be the Leader; Be the Inspiration.
