The digital wave has touched Tata Sons and the conglomerate is now looking to double down on digital initiatives to improve its offerings to customers. The new digital initiatives would require a new leader and who better than TCS veteran Pratik Pal, who has led the $3.5 Bn division at TCS, one that grew at a slightly faster pace than the company average.

“Having led TCS Retail BG (business group) unit in an exemplary fashion for the last 15 years, Pratik Pal has now decided to move to the Tata Group to pursue other opportunities,” wrote TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan in an email.

In his new role, he will help lead Group chairman N Chandrasekaran’s digital initiatives.

Ever since Chandrasekaran has taken the reign, Tata Sons has increasingly been investing in technology to improve its offerings. Group companies have been evaluating their incorporation of data and analytics and are appointing Chief Digital Officers. In the coming months, the conglomerate is expected to create newer business opportunities using technologies such as robotics, analytics, and artificial intelligence.

As Pal comes from a rich background and has a good experience of the domain as well as of working with the Tata Group, he has a lot of potential to lead the digital transformation for the company.

How the Tata Group reorganizes and transforms its current businesses and what newer technology-driven solution it introduces are a few things to look forward to.
