Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as the part-time chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Mishra is currently serving Axis Bank as chief economist and head of Global Research, at Axis Capital.

In addition to the appointment of part-time chairman, UIDAI has also got Nilesh Shah, and Professor Mausam as part-time members of the board of UIDAI, the nodal body in charge of issuing Aadhaar cards. Shah is managing director, Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company Limited and Mausam works with IIT Delhi.

An IIT Kanpur graduate, Mishra is known for his expertise in the global economy.

Mishra joined Axis Bank in May 2023 after spending over two decades of career at Zurich-based Credit Suisse — where he served as Co-head of APAC Strategy, India Equity Strategy, and as India Head of Research. Before Credit Suisse, he worked with Infosys and Hindustan Lever Limited.

UIDAI consists of a chairperson, two part-time members, and the chief executive officer (CEO), who is also the Member-Secretary of the Authority.
