Abidali Neemuchwala appointed as Wipro’s new CEO
Wipro, one of India’s largest information technology services company, has announced that the company will be elevating Abidali Neemuchwala, presently the group’s president and chief operating officer (COO), to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Neemuchwala has replaced T K Kurien who will soon become the group’s executive vice chairman.
The recent promotions will be in effect from 1st February 2016. Kurien, who will complete his five-year tenure as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) this month, will continue to report to Azim Premji, Chairman of the group and remain the member of the Board of Directors. Prior to Wipro, Kurien was the Managing Director of GE X-Ray and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of GE Medical Systems (South Asia).
Neemuchwala joined Wipro last year in April after working with Tata Consultancy Services for over 23 years. He gained much recognition in the industry for making TCS's BPO operations a multi-billion business. “In his nine months as group president and COO, Abid has effortlessly assimilated into the culture and ethos of Wipro,” said Azim Premji, chairman. “The new structure will ensure smooth succession and will build on the solid foundation we have developed to drive superior growth and profitability. I wish both T K and Abid every success in their new roles.”
T K Kurien believes that Abidali is the best possible choice for Wipro’s CEO position. He said “Abid has demonstrated a deep understanding of technology, business vision, sound judgement, and an innate ability to bring people together. I have no doubt that Abid is the right leader to lead Wipro in its next phase of growth.”
Delighted with his new responsibility as a CEO, Neemuchwala said "It is a privilege and an honour to be invited to lead Wipro, a company with a rich heritage of technology innovation and unflinching commitment to values."
"I am convinced that we are well-positioned to seize new opportunities in today's marketplace. I look forward to working with the thousands of Wiproites to take our company to greater heights,"
