HRD in India gets big boost with Right to Education Bill

In what is being termed as a major step towards giving boost to developing Human Resource potential of India, the Right to Education Bill presented by the Union HRD Ministry got the approval of Lok Sabha (Lower House) of the Parliament. The Bill, if passed into a law, would make it compulsory for the state to ensure free education to Indian children between the age group of 6-14 years. The significance of this bill lies in the fact that until now, ensuring the right to education was a part of non-binding Directive Principles of State Policy. However, if the bill gets the assent of the President and becomes a law, it would be mandatory for the state to ensure education for children falling in 6-14 years age group.
