About 96 percent of Indian senior executives have said that the employee experience has been talked about at the senior management levels within their companies. Even though the concept of employee experience is relatively new, leaders have seen a direct impact on staff engagement and organizational success, according to a global study from The Economist Intelligence Unit in partnership with Citrix.

The survey shows that about 61 percent of IT respondents in India believed that their respective departments had the authority to design and select systems in order to optimise the employee experience. Moreover, 54 percent of Indian respondents believe that the equation needs to transform from controlling employees to empowering them.

IT has come into the limelight because of the current trends that leverage technological solutions and drive efficiency by standardising processes. The survey also found that employee experience is driven by about 20 percent of the CIOs or CTOs of organizations that fall under the category of “digitally more mature.”

In an economy like that of India which is extremely mobile-friendly, employees have cited technology being available to employees as a major force that has redefined employee experience in the country. About 40 percent have cited technology as one of the top three factors that determine the quality of the employee experience.

“With the dynamic and any time/anywhere nature of work, coupled with expectations of having a great digital experience when interacting with enterprise applications that is at par with consumer experience on smartphones in personal lives, digital workspace is becoming an agenda being driven at board level for most companies,” said Ravindra Kelkar, Area Vice President, Sales & Services, Indian Subcontinent.

As the landscape of work transforms at a rapid pace, it is going to be crucial for employers to align employee experience with their purpose, organizational culture and understand how it all impacts the business results.

Key takeaway

It is apparent that the employees who are more tuned into their workplace are likely to be more productive and hence more engaged and satisfied. Leveraging the right kind of technology can go a long way in ensuring that employees are able to unlock their potential and become efficient and highly productive, and in turn gain job satisfaction from their workplace.
