40 lakh new jobs created in 8 months- Government
The Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation has released the report on Employment Outlook of the country covering the period September 2017 to April, 2018. It is based on the administrative records available with selected government agencies to assess the progress in certain dimensions.
Around 41.26 lakh new jobs were created in the period eight months till April this year, with largest-ever addition of 6.85 lakh in April alone as per the payroll data of Employees’ Provident Fund (EPFO).
During April, the maximum new payrolls of 1,87,221 were recorded in the age bracket of 18 to 21 years followed by 1,80,892 payrolls in 22 to 25 years.
This is the third in this series of employment statistics. The Ministry brought out the first release of employment-related statistics in the formal sector in April, 2018 covering the period September 2017 to February, 2018, using information on the number of subscribers who have availed benefits under three major schemes, namely, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPFO), Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIC) and the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
The second such report was released in May 2018, covering the period September, 2017 to March, 2018.
