Multiple sources have confirmed that Amazon is undergoing a second round of mass layoffs in India, impacting various departments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources, and support functions.

These layoffs are part of the e-commerce giant's earlier announced plan to cut jobs, affecting at least 500 employees across different verticals in India.

Formerly employed as a senior product compliance associate at Amazon's Bengaluru office, a woman is grappling with the emotional aftermath of losing her job last month.

Struggling to come to terms with the sudden employment termination, she is experiencing a mix of emotions, including grief, anger, and uncertainty. She shared her difficulty in processing the reality of being unemployed.

“I'm grieving the loss of my job, the relationships I built with my colleagues and the sense of purpose I felt in my work. I'm also angry at the situation, and I'm feeling uncertain about what the future hold,” she wrote in a poignant LinkedIn post.

After completing her studies at a private university in Bengaluru, the woman secured a position at Amazon, where she worked for only a year before being laid off. This job at Amazon was her first employment opportunity following college.

“I know that I'm not alone in this experience. Many people are laid off every year, and it's a difficult time. I'm grateful for the support of my friends and family, and I'm confident that I'll get through this,” she wrote.

In March, Amazon unveiled its second wave of layoffs, targeting a reduction of 9,000 jobs. In a memo addressed to the employees on March 20, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy acknowledged that it was a challenging decision made with the company's long-term well-being in mind. These job cuts are in addition to the previous elimination of 18,000 positions a few months prior.

In the past six months, a significant number of individuals worldwide have faced job losses due to the widespread layoff trend among global technology giants.

Companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Twitter, and Goldman Sachs have either recently terminated employees or implemented hiring freezes. This shift is attributed to factors such as sluggish consumer spending, rising interest rates, and increasing global inflation.
