Nokia India Employees' Union demands VRS extension

The Nokia India Employees’ Union met with the Assistant Commissioner of Labour (ACL) at Sriperumbudur, about 40 Km from Chennai, to discuss concerns regarding their jobs at the factory located in the same area. Representatives of the company’s management were also present in this meeting. “We have asked for protection of our jobs at the factory,” said a union member, who did not wish to be quoted. “If that is not possible, we want the VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) to be extended because the model code of conduct is on so that the (Tamil Nadu) government can have considered the situation,” he said.
